Two electricians talking together

Top 5 Frequently Asked Questions For Our Electricians

If we had a dollar for every time someone asked us one of these questions… well, let’s just say we wouldn’t be working overtime. 😉 Here are the questions we hear most often at Ferree Electric.

#5: Is that attic hot?

Yes. Yes, it is.

How hot, you might wonder? In the summer, attic temperatures can reach nearly 160 degrees. That might seem hard to believe, but because all the heat in your home rises, the sun beats down on your roof all day, and the attic is covered in insulation to keep all that heat in, it’s no wonder our electricians emerge from your attic perspiring a little more than before. (It’s a good thing they wear their deodorant!)

In all seriousness, our electricians might find themselves in your attic for many reasons. Common projects that require attic work include fishing wires to and from the main electrical panel, fishing wires to lighting and switches, locating junction boxes, and other general troubleshooting.

You can save yourself the trouble (and the sweat) by having one of our electricians tackle your next electrical project- check out our residential services here.

So, next time you wonder what working in the attic is like, now you know. And if you’ve got an electrician working in your attic, they’d sure be grateful for a refreshing drink when they’re done!

#4: So… when will the power be back on?

While it isn’t necessary very often, turning power off for electrical services can happen from time to time. Electricians might turn off your power to ensure they aren’t shocked while working with wires. Most services only need a partial power shut-off, but full power shut-offs are required for more elaborate services like upgrading your meter base or electrical panel. The good news is that those total power shut-offs only last about one business day, and our electricians will be sure you have power for the night before they leave.

When possible, it’s best to schedule these services on days that don’t require you to have power or internet. If that doesn’t work for your circumstances, you can always pop into your local library or favorite cafe to continue your workflow. Our electricians are committed to working as quickly and efficiently as possible, but if it ever comes down to the wire, pizza for dinner never hurt anyone either!

#3: While you’re here, can you look at…?

We’re always happy to go the extra mile and take a look at whatever additional projects you have in mind, but we also want you to be aware of additional costs that come with change orders or add-ons. Extra time, extra labor, and extra parts require extra funds to pay our hard-working electricians. But, there’s no need to stress, we won’t ever charge you extra before making a final plan with you first.

#2: What about the cost?

With rising costs of construction materials and a high demand for electrical services, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the cost of maintaining your home or business.

At Ferree Electric, we aim to offer the fairest pricing possible and guarantee quality service. We believe that our efforts are worth every penny and that you can have full confidence in our work.

It’s also helpful to remember that you aren’t just paying for the fix to a problem, but that you’re paying for expertise and safety. This post explains the need for electricians and how handing these complex and advanced projects over to our qualified team can save you time, headaches, and more.

#1: How do you say Ferree?

Free? Furry? Fairy?

Don’t worry, we understand. While our quotes are free, and we do love our furry friends (especially elk), and what we do might seem nearly magical… here’s a little help:

Fuh-ree.

Practice that a few times and you’ll find it’s not so tricky after all!

The Ferree name comes from France and means “iron” or “armed”. Seeking refuge from harsh oppression in 1700s France, the original Ferree family showed the real strength and perseverance behind their name as they journeyed to America where they could begin a life of freedom and growth.

While the work of an electrician is rarely easy, Ferree Electric believes in staying true to those values of strength and perseverance as we serve the community around us. We understand that having a family name displayed for the world to see means that it’s our job to represent it well. Because of this, we work to provide quality services with attention to detail and foster relationships of trust with our customers. We offer creative solutions to problems and always hope to bring peace of mind through our work.
